  那些因自己的传道使命、众多的责任和奉献的活动而自以为已蒙主悦纳的人，犯了一个严重的错误。他们口中常常表露出他们的内心并不承认的心灵的贫穷。他们在向上帝诉说别人心灵的贫穷，别人的缺点时，心里却对自己特别的谦卑、特别公义的行为充满自负。这是踩在高跷上的谦卑。当主责备他们的缺点时，他们并不接受或相信。（《信函》1897年45号）怀爱伦著作托管委员会1986年2月13日全文发布于美国首都华盛顿{15MR271.1}[1]

  Those who presume to think that they stand accepted on account of their ministerial commission, their multitudinous duties and exercises of devotion, make a grave mistake. Often their lips express a poverty of soul that their heart does not acknowledge. While speaking to God of poverty of spirit, of the defections of others, the heart is swelling with the conceit of their superior humility, the exercise of their superior righteousness.
