在以色列人出离埃及进入地上的迦南之时，安息日怎样作了区分他们的记号，照样，在现今上帝的子民脱离世界进入天上的安息时，安息日也要作为他们的标志。安息日乃是上帝和衪百姓之间所有的关系的凭证，是表示他们尊重衪律法的记号；也是用以辨识上帝忠顺的子民与悖逆之辈的。……所赐给世界的安息日乃是上帝为创造者的证据，也是衪为使人成圣者的证据。那创造万物的大能，也就是按衪自己的样式重造新人的大能。对那些守安息日为圣的人来说，安息日即成圣的记号。而真实的成圣乃是与上帝协和，在品格上与衪合一；这必须藉着顺从那些作为上帝品格之写真的原则，才能得到，故此安息日又成了顺从的表号。人若真心遵守第四条诫命，就必遵守全部律法；这样，他也就因顺从而成圣了。{AG 156.3}[3]

As the Sabbath was the sign that distinguished Israel when they came out of Egypt to enter the earthly Canaan, so it is the sign that now distinguishes God’s people as they come out from the world to enter the heavenly rest. The Sabbath is a sign of a relationship existing between God and His people, a sign that they honor His law. It distinguishes between His loyal subjects and transgressors.... The Sabbath given to the world as the sign of God as the Creator is also the sign of Him as the Sanctifier. The power that created all things is the power that recreates the soul in His own likeness. To those who keep holy the Sabbath day it is the sign of sanctification. True sanctification is harmony with God, oneness with Him in character. It is received through obedience to those principles that are the transcript of His character. And the Sabbath is the sign of obedience. He who from the heart obeys the fourth commandment will obey the whole law. He is sanctified through obedience.{AG 156.3}[3]

To us as to Israel the Sabbath is given “for a perpetual covenant.” To those who reverence His holy day the Sabbath is a sign that God recognizes them as His chosen people. It is a pledge that He will fulfill to them His covenant. Every soul who accepts the sign of God’s government places himself under the divine, everlasting covenant. He fastens himself to the golden chain of obedience, every link of which is a promise.{AG 156.4}[4]
